The LaPerm cat comes as both shorthair and longhair and has a distinct, curly coat. They are very affectionate and some of them have 'reverse pointed' fur, meaning that they have lighter fur around their face and paws. These cats have strong hunting instinct and are also very people oriented. This breed was named LaPerm because when being entered into a cat competition, it needed a breed name, so it was named after its coat which looked like it had a permanent wave.
